Tourist arrivals up 8.5 percent in October First Published: 23/12/2011 16:36
The number of travellers arriving in Greece increased 8.5 percent in October 2011 to reach 1.4 million, compared with the same month in 2010, the Bank of Greece announced. This was due mainly to a 27 percent increase in arrivals from non-EU countries and a 1.7 percent increase in arrivals from within the EU.
More specifically, there was a 1.4 percent decrease in arrivals from Eurozone member-states and a 6.8 percent increase in arrivals from EU27 member-states not in the Eurozone, including a 15.5 percent increase in arrivals from the United Kingdom.
Notable was the 147.8 percent rise in arrivals from Russia, which increased to 60,900.
Arrivals in the January-October 2011 period increased 10.2 percent to reach 15.6 million travellers, with a 10.6 percent increase in arrivals from Germany and a 3.4 percent decrease in arrivals from the U.K. Out of non-EU countries, arrivals from Russia increased by 63.1 percent.
