Messages from Russia are positive, according to CTO, a delegation of which participated in the 18th Leisure tourist fair in Moscow from 19 to 21 September 2012.
According to the announcement, after the contacts made by the delegation headed by the Board Chairman Alekos Orountiotis and also composed of Chief Executive Marios Channides and Tourism Director Michalis Metaxas, this year's increase in Russian arrivals will be continued since our main partners, tour operators, said they will have a more enhanced program for next year.
“Based on preliminary data, it should be considered certain that tourist arrivals from Russia will reach half a million. The decision of large tour operators to implement winter program for the period December - January to Paphos, which is expected to be the starting point for strengthening winter arrivals, is an exceptionally significant development”, it stressed.
It noted that the arrangements for easier visas to Russian nationals are expected to further improve with the operation of three new consulates of the Cypriot Authorities in three major urban centers: Ekaterinburg, Samara and Krasnodar. "The very impressive results would have been even better if there were no restrictions on air transport”, the announcement concluded.
